Sexism

In my opinion this ad is very sexist. Notice how the guy only worries about the beer, but does not worry if his wife is injured. This shows that men cared for beer. As well as, that men were led to whatever they saw. I guess that women in the 1950's would get offended by this ad. I would not appreciate somebody to only care for beer. I seriously believe that sexism is a serious problem in society today. It was not so different 60 years ago. Society in the 1950's was engulfed by the idea that a women's job was to cook and clean, and had no business in doing either. The ad shows that men would enjoy by drinking beer. Why would men care more for beer than for their wife's? Ads like this show the weakness of women in the 1950's. Hopefully, in the progressive society things will change.

The Impacts of Television

TV has had a huge impact on society, affecting the shoes we buy and the gum we chew to which news interpretation we hear and how the country is doing in the President's State of the Union speech. TV can be used for many positive implications such as asking for donations to help earthquake victims in Japan, but can help twist family values and what is acceptable in society. Media, such as music and TV, definitely affect the actions of teenagers. Commercials particularly focus on this age group because they are a large group of consumers in the United States. If a commercial shows a guy wearing the latest pair of Jordans and gets all the girls, teen boys would see that and think "maybe I'll be cooler if I get those shoes." Some teens watch "Degrassi" and begin to think that the behavior of the people on the show is acceptable, when truly a person wouldn't be able to keep a job if all he or she did was party. On the lighter side, TV can also show other teens that are volunteering to help others after a natural disaster hits. Seeing someone their age making a difference in his or her community, could prompt other teens to do the same. All in all, the messages advertisers and producers send to the public through TV can absolutely affect the opinions, actions, purchases of teens and other Americans

The Norman Rockwell Story

In this particular photo, there are 4 guys. The for guys are Nate, Alex, John, and Sammy. These four guys decided to go to a restaurant and have a couple of drinks. The night that they went they heard a terrible noise. The noise sounded like a huge thud. Right after the sound startled them, Nate, Alex, And John looked straight behind the counter to figure out if the sound came from there. Sammy was trying not to look. It looked as if Sammy was suspicious of something. Nate John, and Alex looked at Sammy. Sammy just kept pouring coffee into a cup as if he didn't hear the noise. Then John, Alex, and Nate decided to run behind the counter to figure out what had caused the huge thud. As soon as they ran behind the counter they noticed a small room. They were curious to know what was in the room, so they just opened the door and took a peek. Inside the room they had seen what has caused the loud thud. The thud came from a dead body laying on the floor.They were all scared. After that they never returned to that place again.

Casablanca Outline

Setting: Casablanca, Morocco 1940's during WWII Introduction: 2 German Couriers were murdered in the Moroccan desert. Ugarte gets the letters of transit. -Rick wants to go back to America - German officials wanted to keep Laszlo at Casablanca because he was the leader of the rebellion of the Nazis. - The Germans want the person that killed the couriers to be killed. Trouble Beggins: -IIsa and her husband, Victor Laszlo arrive at Rick's Restaurant. -IIsa meets Rick again. -They first met in Paris - They both had fallen in love with eachother while they were in Paris. -IIsa and Rick were going t get on a train together when they were in Paris but then she backed out on the last minute because she finds out that her husband was still alive. - Victor escaped the concentration camp Trouble with the Nazis: -Rick has the letter of transit in his restaurant. -Laszlo tries to buy it. -Laszlo is running from the Nazis. -The official had ordered that the restaurant be closed down. -Laszlo goes to Rick for help. Conclusion: -Rick sets a whole plan up to save Laszlo. -IIsa leaves with Laszlo

Role of Women During WWII - Some worked as nurses for the soldiers during this time - Some tried to help out in the war - A lot stood home to watch the rest of their family - Some took the jobs that were available from places when men were at war Cause & Effect of Use of the Atomic Bomb - The United States bombed Japan under many circumstances (twice). -This caused death of millions of people Also the US hoped to end the war, but it didnt work out as planned. US Foreign Policy Before/During/After the War: -Before the US was isolationist -During the US joined in the middle of the war, we didnt want to get involved till the US got attacked -After the war the US got involved in foreign affairs, and joined the United Nations Effects of the War in Europe: -There was a bad Economic Change. -There were many many casualties. -Imperialism was finally put to an end. Effect of Pearl Harbor: -Caused another dropping of the atomic bomb. -There was an immediate US declaration of war against Japan. -Anyone who was a decent of Japanese or is Japanese were relocated to isolated camps. Japanese Internment Camps: -Japanese or Japanese decents were sent to relocation camps because they were concidered a threat since the attack of Pearl Harbor. -Korematsu v. US this was the order that put Japanese Americans into camps. Neutrality Acts: -1935-1937 -Cannot sell weapons to countries at war. That would be embargo. -US battle ships could not be armed. -Americans could only travel on ships to countries at war. Purpose of Propaganda: -Propaganda was very deceitful. -Anyone who sees it believes what ever it says Rationing: -Americans all over were being asked to use less of everything so that most of it can be reserved for our amy. -Families would ration out food, clothing, And gas just for our soldiers.

Show & Tell

The item I chose is an original German first aid hand bag kit. I chose this because back then it was necessary to have one around during World War II. With a lot of injured soldiers around I'm pretty sure nurses around needed certain things to stop certain wounds from bleeding like crazy. They also used things from this kit to keep certain cuts from getting serious infections. I thought this kit was cool because it already came with the tools included. This kit includes a lot of different tools. This kit comes with:
* Different size and types of individual dressing bandage packs
* Medical scissors for cutting clothes and shoes
* Packs of hygroscopic cotton marked 1941
* Folding knife with similar usage for the first cutting of the uniforms
* 4 different tourniquets for blood stopping
* A brass and glass German syringe
* 1 glass cup and 1 glass bottle for medicines
* Different Size and types of surgical needles
* Different types of sterile threads
* Thermometer
* 2 cotton triangles for tighten up
* Wooden medical splint which is used for fixing the broken legs of the soldiers
* 5 little ampules with ammonium hydrate, that is used to recover consciousness when breathing in by the nose
* A surgical razor
* Box of 12 hypodermic needles

Reaction to Realities Past

After viewing most of the video clips, I feel so heart broken. It is so terrifying to go through these horrifying moments that the surviver's had gone through. If I was in their shoes, I know I definitley would have been scared to death. It is sad to know that many families had been broken up. I definitely know that I wouldn't have survived. I probably would've cried myself to death. I still find it hard to believe that a person could be so cruel with so much power. Why would anyone want to get rid of a whole race like that. After viewing the clips, I have imagined myself running for president and making this world a whole better place.

Is Intervention the Answer?

I believe that countries like the US should get involved with other countries that have been affected by genocide. If the US gets involved then everything would turn out ok for other countries. The US would help many people have shelters. There would be a lot more food for everyone. That is just wrong that countries are suffering from starvation and having no homes. If the US got involved then a lot of people will be helped. The people would have clothing to wear. It is wrong that countries have to suffer for the wrong reasons. For example a lot of people had suffered when Hitler was in power.Over millions of people have died. Anyway if the US joins in and help everyone else out then we are considered the better people and we would feel good for helping others.

Letter to Principal

Dear Principal of high school,
I' m writing to you in part of all those who are on my side. History books all over the world are being edited and some are even being banned from most schools. My question is why? Why is it that our history is kept a secret from us. There are many people that are against this. For those of us who would like to know everything about our history and about everything that has happened in the past, we believe that times like the Rape of Nanking and genocide acts in other places of the world like Rwanda for example, should be taught to us. Why is that we are not allowed to learn about every single thing that has happened throught history in our textbooks? I think that for all of us who live on the planet Earth should know what has happened and what is happening in the world around us, not only so we know what has happened and to be prepared just incase of a repeat but also we can make sure that we prevent it from happening again. For example let's say that one of these events from the past like the Holocoust was to occur again and we didn't know about how it occured and how it was ended , then we wouldn't know what to do. Our leaders and big people may know what has happened but since we might be next to fill their spots, we should be well informed about our history. So that we don't make the same mistakes.

Evolution Vs. Religion

Well back then John Scopes was put on trial for teaching his class about evolution. He was a biology teacher who didn't really think that it was wrong to teach his biology class about evolution. I personally think that both evolution and religion could be taught in school. Sure of course the conversations would get heated, but at least people learn something new instead of being ignorant about certain things in reality. In my opinion I would rather learn about both. Either way we are all going to learn about evolution because it revolves around science. And come to think about it, it is interesting to learn about other religions. It's interesting because maybe if you learn about other religions you can actually understand more about people, and you could make new friends. Instead of judging and creating war.This world could become a better place.

Crime

In the small group presentations I have learned something new. I learned about a few gangsters. Each group had a different gangster. My group had Lester M. Gillis. Aka Baby Face Nelson. Before this project I didn't know who this ganster was.

While doing this project I found out why he was called Baby Face Nelson. He was called Baby Face Nelson because he was the youngest one in the gang group. I learned that when he was 12 years old he by accidently shot a kid in the jaw. Then by the age of 14 he commited his first crime. His first crime was car theft. He was into taking cars and remodeling them, and go joy riding in them.

Another crime he has done was robbery. He has also shot a police officer. He has even escaped from prison. He has killed people too. I learned that he has worked for Al Capone. I can honestly say I learned a lot of new information.
